One week!

Well, this is our last week living with Amy.

Not that we’ll never see Amy and Thomas again, of course, but it’ll be by choice rather than necessity. We’ve got a move in time booked, we’ve got a truck rented, I just need to pack up my stuff in the apartment! Fortunately, I don’t really have all that much, though the kitchen is going to look pretty bare once I’m gone.

Thomas realised that he can’t cook like I can, so this week I’m going to try to impart my knowledge upon him. I’ve never tried to teach anyone anything. I have no idea how this will go! At least it’s better than trying to teach Ian to cook, Thomas is thin enough that we can both fit at the counter together.

I’ve also put up a story. It’s actually older, I kind of forgot about it. I probably should have re-read it for errors, but I’m sure if you spot any, you’ll let me know right away. Otherwise it becomes your mistake, and I’ll be damned if I’m going to take responsibility for that!

Basketball

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it yet, but I’ve started playing basketball again!

I used to play, I was on the girls team in public school and high school. Being a tall girl guarantees you’re on the team. This had some benefits, some guys liked the idea of athletic girls, so it added to my ‘cool factor’. (Yes, I’m well aware I’m above those things now. But this was then. I was skinny and petty in high school!) It helped keep me fit, taught me about focusing, dealing wit disappointments etc.

In university I played pickup games, but they became rarer and rarer as I started hanging out with non-athletic types. I never liked to WATCH basketball (of course, seeing a bunch of buff guys working up a sweat is different… it’s not the basketball I’m watching), just play it. But, I drifted away from the sport, and I didn’t miss it.

This was also about the time I started gaining weight. By the time I realised I missed playing basketball, I’d gained enough weight that I couldn’t really play it anyway.

Or so I thought.

When I was on a walk this summer, I saw some ‘kids’ playing ball in a school yard. I watched them for a bit, even took a few shots. They thought it was odd that some fat chick would be hanging out, but they were very polite about it.

That would have been the end of it, but Thomas plays basketball with some friends, and asked if I knew anyone who could play. I told him that I used to, but obviously couldn’t. Well, I guess they needed bodies more than talent, so I went out to play with them.

As I’d thought, I’m not exactly the greased lightning I was in my heyday, but it didn’t take long for my shot to come back to me. Passing’s working out okay. It’s just the whole running thing that I can’t quite get.

It was actually kinda weird. I had to get clothes to wear, I actually found a size 30 set of shorts and tank top to wear! My first go I didn’t have a sports bra (that wasn’t an issue the last time I played basketball…), but that mistake was soon remedied! Running is a bit of a new thing now. Obviously I’m not blazing up and down the court, but I’m trying my damndest to move quickly.

I’m by far the worst player out there. But we balance it by putting me with the best players, so it works out okay. I’m getting exercise, I’m having fun. There are a couple other girls, all far better than I am (though if I were skinny assed like them, I could whip them good.)

I do admit, while I’m out there, I’m acutely aware of how huge I have become. This is the one area that makes me regret gaining weight.

Oh, PS, I’ve realised that the ‘comments’ part of my website isn’t working so well. If it doesn’t work for you, email me, or check out the FAQ section. The FAQ actually lets you ask your own questions, which will be added to the list, pretty cool eh? In the mean time, if you know of any decent (free) comments thingy, let me know.

So what’s new since last posting?

Well, Thanksgiving came and went. I had a lot of fun. My mom and I did up a ‘traditional’ dinner back home in Toronto. Then we came back to London and I whipped up something a little more experimental for Ian, Amy and Thomas. I’d say the experiment sort of fizzled, but they ate it anyway. It’s nice to have people enjoy your failures!

In other news, Ian and I have found a place to live in. We’ll be moving in on November 1st, well, at least getting Ian’s stuff out of storage. We’ll see how liveable it is after that, though it should be okay. I love this kind of moving, where you’re already somewhere, and not in a rush to leave. Not that we plan to overstay our welcome at Amy’s. She’s been so great letting us live here! Though I know everyone is ready for a little privacy.

I guess I’ll give up posting my stories online. I haven’t heard much about them, so I guess no one cares. Ambivalence is certainly one of the things I cannot stand, so why invite it?

I don’t know how big Ian is now, but two thanksgivings certainly are showing on him! He’s getting to another ‘level’ in his weight. A ‘level’ of weight is hard to pinpoint, but it’s when someone gets to the size where there is a ‘change’. Again, it’s hard to quantify this ‘change’, but for me it’s things like: moving from normal to plus size clothing, when you start to waddle, when you realise you can’t see your feet. It’s just a new level of awareness about being fat, and I think Ian’s about to experience one.

Certainly, he’s already passed the other three, the one he hasn’t gotten to that I had to deal with was getting up. At 460 pounds, standing up was a huge deal! It’s weird how you take it for granted until one day… the way you’ve always done it doesn’t work! Sure, as I gained weight, I had to adjust my technique for standing, but once I passed, about 420, I really had to turn it around and relearn how to get to my feet! Ian’s getting to that point, I think. I can’t wait!

New Story: Thanksgiving

With Canadian Thanksgiving coming up this weekend, it inspired me to write a new story. I have ripped off the idea from a movie I rather enjoy. I hope you don't mind my tribute.

Charlotte's Thanksgiving

Also, I'm trying to get my story publishing worked out a little bit better. Geocities has turned out to be a mess, but Bravenet seems to have something I can use. When I get a moment, I'll start moving my stories over there.

Until then, enjoy:

Another busy weekend!

Ian and I have narrowed down our apartment search, we should have a place by November.

I worked on Sunday, so I didn’t get to feed Ian as much as I’d have liked, but here goes:
Friday night: Chinese Food! Amy’s found a great place here in London. Not the best in the world, but still very good. The four of us did about $100 worth. Then we went out to a club, so any excess calories were unfortunately burned off.

Saturday morning: we were rushed, so Ian just had a half dozen danishes. Of course, on the way home we picked up a dozen Krispy Kremes, so that made up for a lack of breakfast.

For lunch we just made some tuna salad sandwiches. There’s a lot of mayo in those, but not super duper fattening. Alas, when time is an issue, then haute cuisine isn’t always possible. If it’s any consolation, Ian did have several sandwiches.

Dinner was finally a substantial meal. I fried up some pork chops with a tomato sauces, served with garlic mashed potatoes. For dessert we had a box of chocolate éclairs from M&Ms.

Sunday I had to work, but still got a good breakfast going. Nothing too special, but pancakes with maple syrup is always great! I threw in some eggs and hasbrowns, just for good measure.

Lunch was just fast food, Burger King, I think.

Dinner was a quick pasta dish. It was an oil based sauce, lots of olives!

For dessert I picked up a chocolate cake. Gotta love chocolate!

Ontario Election

Okay, first, why do people campaign about creating jobs? Or at least, why conservatives? People who have jobs don't need more jobs. People who don't have jobs are likely to vote for a socialistic government anyway. Or maybe I missed something.

Anyway, I much prefer the Conservative platform to the Liberal platform (this aside is all I'll say about the NDP). However, I do not want the people who are running the conservative campaign to represent me. Any time they try to make a valid point, they go and blow it (The "Liberal Plan to cut class size cannot be done in their promised budget." -- okay, sounds good, I'll vote Conservative, but wait -- "Because Dalton McGuinty has a pointy head" -- WHAT!? I want some lame ass school yard bully as Premier? I don't think so.)

So... I'm still undecided. The PCs make more sense, but they're jerks. The Liberals will not do what they promise, so it's a gamble if they can recover the fumble.

Ideally, we'd have a liberal Ontario government and a Conservative federal government. Alas, it's the other way around, and I think that causes too much trouble. I think Liberal-Liberal might be better than what we have now.

I hate politics.

That's why I lost a few good jobs at museums in Toronto. I hated all the BS I had to put up with.
